Fire Starting- a lot harder than it looks

This is part of what I did in the school holidays. This piece of writing is set a El Rancho holiday camp were I was for the first week of the school holidays.

The leaves crunched beneath our feet as we walked to the large pile of sticks, dried leaves, and pinecones I had found early that week whilst foraging for shelter materials. After Gathering as many leaves, twigs and pine cones as we could carry, we set back down the tree covered bank towards the other campers. Once there we tried to figure out how to start a small fire to cook our food on.  Luckily Finlay came over and tried to do it for us but even with lighter it wouldn't remain alight for more than three seconds. Then Fergus come over thinking he could light it for us, that didn’t work either. The instructor also tried, it still didn't work!  Luckily Camp Mum came along and explained why it wasn't working and got the fire going and stabilised before having to leave because of an emergency in the medical bay. Now that our fire was going Felicity and myself went to get our marshmallows and hash browns and cooked them over the open flame.  With a sizzle, the fires were ended by the buckets of water killing the last of the dying embers.
