Sugar Is Your Worst Nightmare
By Jasmine
Sugar is good for you, right?
Wrong! Sugar is actually one of the contributing factors to many medical conditions that can kill you if not caught early such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and many other problems. But that is only part of the issue because your body can become addicted to sugar.
So say you just ate a lollipop due to that you now have all this sugar in your body and your bloodstream so your pancreas releases a hormone called insulin this helps to store all of the sugar that has been converted to fat in your liver, muscles and fat cells. Your body might also burn the sugar for energy this is how you end up with a sugar rush and also why many people who have a fast metabolism don't seem to gain as much weight as others even if they're eating the same thing.
The average adult in New Zealand consumes about 37 teaspoons of sugar a day, they should only be having, at most, 7 teaspoons of sugar a day. That is five times the recommended amount so it is no surprise that 1 in 9 kids are obese and 1 in 3 adults are obese and that is in New Zealand alone. But the scary thing is if you wanted to you could just stop eating unhealthy amounts of sugar, you probably won't because as a recent study has shown sugar is just as addictive as drugs, so your body is so used to sugar you will have withdrawal symptoms.
There are over two hundred and forty thousand people in New Zealand who have been diagnosed with diabetes and there are most likely over one hundred thousand people who have it but don't know it and theses numbers are rising especially type 2 diabetes which is sometimes caused by a condition called insulin resistance that refers to how you body reacts to sugar.
So if I had to point to ONE culprit for many people’s expanding waistlines and rapidly deteriorating health, it would be Sugar. The amount of trouble sugar and artificial sugars have caused people is disgusting . Fear not, as I have come up with the solution !
Eat less sugar if you want to live longer.
The end.
