Sugar Tax

1.Why does Dr Beagelhole want a suger tax?
Because sugar is the main cause of type 2 diabetes, rotten teeth, other oral          diseases and obesity and because the main reason children are admitted to hospital is to have teeth removed under general anaesthetic which cost taxpayers .
2.Why is Peter Dunne against the sugar tax ?
He is against the sugar tax because he believes that it will do nothing because people don't know how bad the sugar really is and children need to learn to brush their teeth and care for themselves.
3.What countries have a sugar tax ?
Mexico,Norway,Denmark,St Helena,New York and Berkeley, California.
Mexico has a sugar tax which costs buyers (roughly US$0.10) per liter).
There has been benefit's of Mexico’s sugar tax is a decrease in sugar consumption. The negative impact is on companies like Coca-Cola because there products cost more so there sales have gone down 2.8% in Mexico.
New York has a ban on sugary drinks that are more than  16 ounces or 0.5 millimeters.Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and the Dr Pepper Snapple Group voluntarily pledged to reduce US calorie consumption in sugary drinks by an average of 20% by 2025 this is because they would otherwise lose all business in the New York. The issue is it will not affect  weight because it  is only 55% of an american diet.
4. What countries are against sugar tax? Why?
California have passed on the sugar tax as three quarters of votes disagree with the
sugar tax.

PROS

  • Obesity levels may drop because of the price change.
  • less sugar caused oral disease cases.
  • People would have a better understanding of what it means to watch what you eat.
  • Government tax may go down due to people being healthy and not needing so many doctors and nurses.

       CONS

  • Increase starvation because other foods are still the same price which some can't pay.
  • Those who are gluten free would have to pay even more because most gluten free products contain a large amount of sugar.
  • Dentist ,doctors and nurses may be fired due to people looking after their health.
  • There would be protests and violence from those who say no of they ruled it anyway.

6.Conclusion
People overall would just continue in the sugary ways no matter what you do unless you ban sugary foods altogether but that would start wass and protest that aren't all that peaceful.
In my opinion the idea is good by the bad effects are to grate so you should stock less of it on shelves instead that way it does both with less downsides.
7. Fascinating Finds
The leaders of the sugar tax campaign includes Dr Gerhard Sundborn, Dr Robert Beaglehole, Professor Rod Jackson, Professor Boyd  Swinburn, Dr Simon Thornley and Associate Professor Tony Merriman.
