Cable Car

History
The  original idea for the cable car was Martin Kennedy in 1895
The designer of the Wellington cable car was James Fulton .
They set out to build the cable car in 1898 as Wellington population was growing.
Initially they thought to use a water balanced system .
The cable cars arrived in 1901 the second a month later.
Opened in 1902 a year behind schedule.
It was changed to an electric motor in 1933.
Eventually because of buses becoming such competition the original owners sold the cable car to the Wellington council..
The first cable cars were steam powered non powered by an electric motor like the newer cable cars.
In 2012 the cable car celebrated its 110 years running in Wellington.


General facts
 A sum of 12,172 pounds  was spent on the contracting fee and the the first cable
car was steam powered then they changed to electric due to power issues.
The wellington cable car is a well known must do for tourists
On the cable cars way there are three tunnels and three bridges to cross for the cable car.
It has three stops between Kelburn and Lambton Quay ,the one stop closest to Lambton Quay is Clifton stop and Clifton car park ,the stop in the middle is talavera stop and the third stop is salamanca stop .
A one way ride costs $2.00 for a child under fifteen and $4.00 for an adult.
It Runs every ten minutes.
The cable car runs more often that a train or bus so it can be more reliable for commuters and tourists.
It runs on a series of strong cables.
The cable car itself ways 13 kilos.
The cable cars is for easy access to places instead of getting stuck in Wellington traffic.
